The majority of new wells drilled in the United States today are horizontal multistage completions. Many of the new horizontal wells are infill development wells in existing fields where older horizontal wells have been producing for more than five to ten years. One of the most important and critical responsibilities of Reservoir and Completions Engineers, as well as Geologists, is to be able to accurately predict production performance and economic viability of these newer infill horizontal wells to optimize expenditures and maximize return on capital investment in the current challenging high cost and low price environment.
